Car dumpers are targeted

The Gloucester Citizen has had enough of people dumping cars in the city and is joining forces with police to tackle the problem.

The newspaper has become involved in the police’s Operation Dodger campaign to rid the streets of abandoned, untaxed and rusting vehicles.

Using information from readers, the paper has built up a ‘Car Dump Dossier’ which it has passed on to campaign bosses.

Under the scheme, police set aside specific days to tow away abandoned cars from the area.

The cars are then taken to a compound and the last owners are traced and ordered to pay the recovery costs.

Operation Dodger co-ordinator, Claire Yeatman, said: “Since the Citizen reports, we have been inundated with calls about abandoned cars.

“We welcome the dossier and will respond to the cars on the list and get warning notices issued.”
