Cancer appeal reaches new landmark figure

An appeal by the Evening Courier to raise money to equip a new cancer unit in Halifax has passed another landmark total.

The paper’s Macmillan Cancer Unit appeal now stands at £751,000 – only £49,000 away from its £800,000 target.

The money raised will be used to equip a new cancer care unit at the recently opened Calderdale Hospital, which will mean day care cancer patients will no longer have to travel to other towns and cities for treatment.

Macmillan appeals manager Michelle Norcliffe said: “It’s a fantastic achievement to reach this landmark total. Now we just need to reach our final target.”

Since the appeal was launched last year readers of the Evening Courier have taken part in a massive variety of fundraising events, including fun days, head shaving and auctions.
