Campaign could result in award

The Lincolnshire Echo’s anti-litter campaign has had such a large response that the city has entered Britain’s Cleanest City contest for the first time.

The newspaper launched the campaign in an effort to make the place tidier.

And the appeal seems to have captured the imagination of residents because Lincoln has been rated as one of the cleanest cities by inspectors.

Now there is a wait until March to hear if it has been awarded the title of Britain’s Cleanest City by competition organisers, the British Cleaning Council.

In the meantime, the Echo has urged readers to call in and tell reporters which areas need attention. The paper has promised to pass on information to the city council.

City council officer Ian Taylor said: “Obviously we can use this as a focus. We can get behind the project and encourage Lincoln residents to keep their city clean.”
