Bus Watch to secure top class service

A Bus Watch has been launched for readers of the Southern Daily Echo – to keep them up-to-date on Southampton’s controversial bus service.

Complaints from passengers to the paper include claims of buses being late and even failing to turn up following a recent overhaul of the timetables.

First Southampton claims the route changes are for the better and have shown increased passenger numbers. But two routes originally under threat have already been reinstated after passenger complaints.

The paper is to look at services and keep the pressure up to secure the best service for passengers.

The paper said: “Government minister Lord Whitty came to meet transport chiefs in the city earlier this month and looked at the problem.

“He said new laws launched this year would mean a shake-up like the one carried out by First Southampton should never happen again.”

Critics claim First Southampton did not fully consult the public or the city council on the changes which affected services to schools and hospitals. The claims are denied by the company.
