Big step forward to curenoisy road

Misery caused by a noisy Exeter road could be coming to an end – thanks to a local newspaper.

The Exeter Express and Echo has called for a stretch of the A30 to be resurfaced after readers complained that noise from traffic was a constant headache.

As a result, the district council has responded to the campaign by reccommending that the speed limit on the road be reduced by 20mph as a preparation for resurfacing.

The council will now ask the Department of Environment, Transport and Regions for permission to enforce the new speed limit.

But councillor Graham Liverton added a note of caution, saying: “I hope a cut in the speed limit will be strictly temporary because I don’t want to see it as a green light for the Government not to resurface the road.

“We need pledges that the work will go ahead.”
