Bath danger drivers to be named and shamed

A campaign to crack down on road safety dangers around schools is to get a new push as the school term starts this week.

The Bath Chronicle photographers will be out and about snapping cars that are parked on the zig-zag lines outside schools.

The photos will be published in the next day’s paper, along with the registration numbers of the vehicles shown.

As well as the name and shame aspect, the Chronicle is also taking a more proactive stance by speaking to schools, councillors and road safety officials about how to solve the problem.

The scheme has been welcomed by teachers, with head of Coombe Down Primary, Paul Buckley, saying: “We saw an improvement at the school and it certainly raised awareness among parents.”

The Chronicle is now calling on readers to alert the paper to hazardous areas so measures can be taken to ease the problem.
