Coverage by the Bristol Evening Post into asylum seekers has earned it praise from a leading UK centre for asylum seekers.
The Information Centre about Asylum and Refugees, said in an independent report: “The events recognised the value of the Bristol Defend Asylum Seekers Campaign’s work with the local media, particularly the Bristol Evening Post.”
The case of the Mehmeti family, a family genuinely fleeing persecution, was highlighted by the Post.
The Mehmetis had fled war-torn Kosovo to Britain, but were told they had to return.
Following a ten-month legal fight with the Home Office, they were allowed to stay.
The Bristol Defend the Asylum Seekers Campaign group, which fought for the family, also praised the Post for backing the families’ plight.
