Are you sitting comfortably?

Nurses are to stage a sponsored sit-in to boost the Peterborough Evening Telegraph’s Lifesaver Appeal.

They are going to stay put for four hours in a bid to raise money for the appeal which helps kidney patients in the Peterborough area.

The Lifesaver appeal was launched earlier this year and half the money raised will be given to the Peterborough District Hospital’s renal unit for new equipment, with the other half going to the National Kidney Research Fund, which also happens to be based in Peterborough.

The campaign has captured the imagination of readers, many of whom are running their own fundraising events to increase the total.

The idea for the latest stunt came from the kidney patients themselves, who have to sit for four hours at a time during dialysis, which removes toxins from their blood.

They challenged the nurses to stay put for four hours as well – and have all sponsored the staff for the event.
