Appeal nears the big £1m

An ambitious hospice appeal is anticipating raising its first £1m in the next few weeks.

The Chestnut Tree House Appeal, backed by the Worthing Herald, the Littlehampton Gazette and the Shoreham Herald, now has £922,946 in the kitty – £15,000 up on the last count.

One of the most recent money-spinning events was an antiques day where people paid a fee for their items to be valued by Bonham’s auctioneers.

The appeal, which aims to raise £5m, will build a children’s hospice on land near the A27 at Angmering, offering respite and palliative care as well as terminal care and bereavement support for the whole family.

Fund-raising has been going on for almost a year and planning permission for the building has been applied for.
