Animal lovers unite!

A Tiverton Gazette appeal from an animal lover has received an overwhelming response from kind-hearted readers.

Gilbert Snow, who runs the Pixie Farm Rescue Centre, appealed in the Gazette for help after his weekly animal feed bill was doubled in the wake of the foot and mouth crisis.

Mr Snow, (72), has devoted the last 15 years of his life to looking after animals and is now looking after 20 including four pigs, eight goats, 12 chickens and six cats.

He said: “People keep stopping me and handing over small amounts of cash, I now have £300 in the bank when before I didn’t have a ha’penny. The response has been fantastic – I just want to thank everyone.”

Residents of the area have donated cash, bags full of swedes and potato peelings and mints for the animals.

Mr Snow said: “I am really chuffed, on top of the world, I never realised there were so many people interested in helping me out. I didn’t expect it to be like this.”
