Advertiser's bid to bag the taggers

The Maidenhead Advertiser has launched a fight to “bag the taggers” and wipe out graffiti which is ruining the appearance of the town.

The weekly newspaper has joined forces with the Royal Borough and Crimestoppers for the campaign, and each week will print a selection of the graffiti signatures – known as tags – from the area, in a bid to catch the culprits.

Anyone who can provide information on the vandals, which leads to a conviction, will get a £250 reward from Crimestoppers.

Editor Martin Trepte said: “These yobs are only able to get away with it because we let them.

“It’s time to show them we won’t put up with them defacing our town any longer.

“By joining forces with the council and Crimestoppers we can wage a high-profile campaign to show people they really can make a difference to their community.

“But for the campaign to be really be effective we need the people of Maidenhead to get behind us and help bag the taggers by coming forward with information.”

The launch of the campaign follows a council survey which should residents felt graffiti was one of the worst things about the area.
