Accident rate slashed after Express campaign

An Aberdeen newspaper is claiming some of the credit for slashing accident rates in the region.

The Evening Express has revealed how accident rates – especially near schools – have dropped in the wake of its Protect Our Kids campaign.

Three years ago 78 children were injured in accidents while walking to and from school. But last year’s figures recorded just 25.

The campaign – hailed as one of the most effective of its kind in Scotland – highlights accident hotspots and dangerous driving across the city.

And it names and shames parents who park on yellow zig-zag lines outside schools, wiping out the problem in some areas.

The campaign has also been praised by the Scottish Executive, which congratulated the newspaper on a job well done – declaring it to be an example the rest of the country should follow.
