£35,000 in two weeks for poorly Hope

A businessman has dug deep into his wallet to find the £5,000 needed to clinch an appeal target to fund a vital operation.

Sunderland youngster Hope Elliott needs an operation to transform her life.

She has cystic lymphovenous malformation, which creates a build-up of lymph fluid-filled cysts in the face and deep into the throat. Cysts in her mouth and tongue are causing strangulation of the facial nerves and a facial palsy, which has ballooned her face.

The condition also makes it hard for her to breathe and she has had to have a tracheostomy to ease her discomfort.

The £35,000 appeal was launched by the Sunderland Echo less than a fortnight ago and the final donation means Christmas has come early for Hope and her family.

The Echo said her parents, Peter and Bernadette, were shocked and ecstatic at the result.

Bernadette said: “I can’t believe it that we have done it so quickly. People have just been so kind and generous and responded really, really well. Peter is just astounded at the fact that we have got it.”

It is now crucial that the fund-raising continues so that Hope can plan for a second operation.

The £5,000 came from a man who has returned from a holiday in Las Vegas with a big win.
