12,000 papers boost'no-go zone'

A weekly paper has been praised for its crime-stopping initiative after an anti-burglary pack was delivered with all 12,000 papers.

Staff at the Haverhill News in Cambridgeshire joined police and councillors to make the area a “no-go zone” for burglars and bogus callers.

The crime packs contained security marker pens, stickers and vital crime prevention information.

Haverhill’s house burglary count had decreased slightly in the year since the initiative began – but other towns in the area had all seen an increase during the same period.

County councillor Gerry Kiernan said: “The packs have done their job,” and thanked the Weekly News for its part in the work.
