£10,000 raised for sick tots in two weeks

An appeal by the Evening News, to raise money for three Cambridge toddlers suffering from a rare disease, has raised over £10,000 in less than two weeks.

Brothers Charlie and Oliver Hall and their friend Ewan Riddell are among just 13 children in the country to suffer from the incurable bowel disease, Eosinophilic Enteritis.

They are unable to eat solids without suffering unbearable pain and face a life without food unless they are seen by doctors in America who have researched the rare condition.

The boys’ families, with the support of the charity Kids Infiltrated With Eosinophilic Enteritis, need £30,000 to send the trio to the Children’s Hospital Medical Centre of Cincinnati.

In a desperate attempt to raise money for the vital trip their parents appealed for the support of Evening News readers who have since been calling the paper in their hundreds to pledge money.

And just 13 days after the appeal was launched, £10,300 has already been raised.

Ewan’s mum, Pauline, said: “I can’t believe that people can be so generous.

“We are all absolutely amazed and very happy that so much has been raised so quickly. It is so fantastic that words fail me.”
