The regional BT-sponsored Press and Broadcast Awards were handed out in Birmingham with Peter Rhodes, Chief Feature Writer of the Wolverhampton Express and Star, named as Feature Writer of the Year. It was the third year out of the last four that he has won the title.

The judges said: “Yet again he demonstrated the gulf between a good specialist feature writer and a news reporter who writes features.

“All his pieces were shot through with vivid colour, helped by the fact that he is not afraid to ask his interviewees cheeky questions.

“His writing flows along at a pace which can’t help but carry the reader right to the end.
