Bradford strikers back at work

National Union of Journalists members at Newsquest in Bradford have returned to work, putting an end to an “indefinite” strike despite no resolution being reached.

Members at the Telegraph & Argus, Keighley News, Ilkley Gazette, Craven Herald and Wharfedale Observer began their latest walkout on May 26 and have held 47 days of stoppages this year.

Legal constraints on unions mean that members would have to ballot again before a new walkout.

Joint Father of Chapel Bob Smith said: “We decided to end the latest phase of action but the dispute is still ongoing.

“We are waiting for a response to our latest proposals and NUJ General Secretary Jeremy Dear is still communicating with management.”

Union members will meet next week to decide what to do next.
