Bosom buddies in bra walk

A group of journalists from Newsquest South London will be walking thestreets of London in decorated Playtex Wonderbras to raise money for breastcancer research.

Six women from the Guardian/Comet North Cheam office will be joining up to8,000 other women (and a handful of men!) for the annual Playtex Moonwalk – a 26-mile power-walking marathon around the streets of London.

The publicity-grabbing walk starts at midnight on Saturday May 12 fromBattersea Park and has received plenty of attention over theyears – because participants parade the capital’s streets in decoratedPlaytex Wonderbras.

Four of the staff taking part this year managed to stagger to the finishingline last year, raising just under £2,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

One participant, Sutton news editor Paula Dear said: “We decided to do itafter my mum’s twin sister was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“Walking through the centre of London on a Saturday night in our bras withthousands of other women was a pretty unusual experience but the atmospherewas amazing.

“It was the toughest thing I have ever done and most us us literally hobbledfor the last ten miles or so. But my aunt was really proud of us and is nowrecovering well, so it was worth the pain.”

This year the girls – some of whom are doing the half marathon and somedoing the full course – hope to beat their fundraising efforts of last year.
