Booth "delighted" at new role

Kevin Booth, who is soon to become the new editor of the Evening Press in York, has spoken of his delight at joining the paper.

Currently editor of the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, Kevin, (45), will join the paper in early September.

He says he already has plans to take the paper forward – although he is as yet reluctant to reveal the details.

He said: “I have some definite plans for the future, but would of course prefer to talk them through with the staff first.”

The Evening Press will be a bigger project for Kevin, as with a circulation of around 42,000, it is about 15,000 more than the Evening Telegraph.

The York title will also be Kevin’s first experience of working on a broadsheet, and he will also take overall editorial responsibility for the Star series, the website www.thisisyork.co.uk and numerous niche publications, including the popular YO1 magazine.

Kevin’s current role as editorial director of East Midlands Newspapers Ltd, which also sees him with responsibility for the weekly Peterborough Citizen and the website www.peterboroughnow.co.uk, will stand him in good stead for the new job.

He said: “It will be a wrench to leave the Evening Telegraph after three extremely enjoyable and successful years.

“I feel I leave the paper in a position of considerable strength with a good sales performance and an extremely capable and dedicated editorial team to whom I am very grateful.

“The chance to join the Evening Press was too great an opportunity to miss. The paper has an excellent reputation and I now look forward very much to working with the staff in York.”

He will be moving to the York area to live within the paper’s circulation area, with his wife, who works in newspaper advertising.

During Kevin’s time as editor of the Evening Telegraph the paper has undergone a mini-redesign, with new columnists, a daily business section, a double page letter spread and a new Saturday supplement.
