Blunkett open to question

Tynesiders are to get the chance to quiz education secretary David Blunkett thanks to their local evening paper.

The minister has agreed to let parents grill him about their education concerns.

They are being asked to send their questions in to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, which will put them to Mr Blunkett.

Mr Blunkett said in an interview with the Chronicle: “It’s essential that parents feel able to help their children when they ask. After all children only spend about a fifth of their lives at school.

“It is parents who shape their lives more than any other influence.

“I would like to ask any parent with a concern about what their child will be learning at school next term to get in touch with the Chronicle.

“I will be answering parents’ questions in the Chronicle this September. I look forward to hearing from you.”
