Belfast paper closes after poor sales

New Belfast morning newspaper The Daily View has closed, after sales failed to live up to expectations.

The paper first hit the streets on April 4, and its closure means the future of its 17 staff is uncertain.

Published by the Local Press Ltd, which also owns the News Letter, it abstained from sectarian politics and had hoped to attract a mid-market family audience.

A spokesman for the board of Local Press Ltd said circulation had been disappointing.

He said: “Unfortunately the decision will affect 17 full-time staff.

“Working within legislative requirements there may be opportunities for some staff to seek employment in the other titles published by the company.”
