Barry Fry signs for the Herald

The Tamworth Herald has managed to secure the services of football legendBarry Fry for a forthcoming awards presentation.

The plans for this year’s Tamworth Sports Person of the Year awards arewell under way and are now on track – following the booking of a big name guestspeaker.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the ceremony, publisher CIN’s new businessmanager Guy Helliker managed to book the Peterborough FCmanager and all-round football character Barry Fry to do the honours.

Guy, who is also responsible for organising the dinner and the awardsmagazine for the event, is delighted with the booking.

He said: “We got Barry through a theatrical agent and are delighted he hasagreed to do it.

“He is such a big name in the West Midlands following his time at BirminghamCity and is very outspoken – which should make for a great night.

“The magazine is out a week before the event and will include a feature withBarry, and it should be a great preview to a fantastic night.”

Each year CIN organises the evening and invites local sports clubs to votein the awards.

It is not the first time CIN has scooped a big name either, in the pastex-England cricketer Graham Gooch and ex-Liverpool footballer Emlyn Hugheshave both graced the occasion with their sporting anecdotes.

The event attracts more than 130 people and is a high profile promotionalexercise for CIN, with income generated from the production ofthe souvenir magazine.

Guy is organising the event with Rob Tanner, joint group sports editor, whois responsible for the editorial side of the magazine as well as all thepublicity.
