Ban 'will not stop journalist from doing his job'

South Wales Echo football writer Mark Bloom is continuing to report on Cardiff City Football Club, despite a three-month ban from its ground and press conferences.

The journalist fell foul of the club after chief Sam Hammam took exception to some of the newspaper’s coverage, but while talks take place to try and resolve the dispute editor Richard Williams said the ban would not stop Mark from doing his job.

He told HoldtheFrontPage: “He has the back page lead today and also had it on Friday and Saturday.

“He has been on the phone talking to players and agents as he normally would.”

The Echo has two other journalists covering Cardiff City in addition to Mark, who are are available to report from the ground and conferences.

But Richard said he wanted to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

He said: “We can’t accept that any club can dictate who can cover them or what is written about them. We need to find a way around this.

“Mark has the support of dozens of journalists from across Wales and is getting a lot of calls from people who are outraged at how he has been dealt with.

“He is well-known on the Championship football circuit and there are a lot of journalists who sympathise with his position.”
