Advertising revenue boost for Trinity regionals

Improved advertising revenues from Trinity Mirror’s regional division have offset tough conditions for the national titles in the second half of the financial year, according to the publisher’s latest trading update.

Advertising income for the regional newspaper titles increased by three per cent year on year, despite advertising revenue falling by 0.7 per cent year on year in the same period for Trinity’s regional titles in London and the South East.

Circulation revenues for the regionals increased by 2.1 per cent year on year for the period, with cover price increases offsetting volume declines.

A company statement said: “Our strategy Stabilise Revitalise Grow is on course and the Board is confident that, despite the adverse effects of continued volatility in the advertising market for our national titles, performance for the year will be at least in line with expectations.”

The trading update was issued ahead of the company’s preliminary results expected on February 26.
