'800 not out!'Echo celebrates

Eight hundred pages of pure nostalgia – that’s the running total for the Lincolnshire Echo’s The Way We Were, this week celebrating its 100th issue.

It has appeared almost every week since September 1999 featuring items from the Echo’s own archives, memories of local people and countless photos from days gone by.

The paper this week paid tribute to the contributors whose work has been behind the supplement’s success.

They include John Roberts, reliving evenings at the old city NAAFI club, Ifor Barton, from a local genealogical company, former teacher Bryan Cliffe and a host of other regular contributors.

Columnist Peter Brown said: “As the weeks went by, we were able to relive some of the most memorable events in Lincolnshire’s recent past.

“Thanks to everyone who has contributed to The Way We Were and to those readers who have told me they keep every one of them, or send them off to relatives all over the world.”

The Echo is now looking forward to celebrating the second birthday of the supplement next month.
