16-page B&W broadsheet to 56-page full-colour tabloid

The Forester has seen itself transformed under the stewardship of new owners – and the introduction of the TERA production system.

When Northcliffe bought the Cinderfood-based Forester in November, it was being produced as a broadsheet using paste-up.

In just three months the paper, a weekly paid-for title serving the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, has been completely re-designed and is now produced using TERA’s GN3 publishing system.

“It has been a huge culture change,” said managing editor Viv Hargreaves.

“But everyone has been brilliant. Staff converted from manual Olivettis to GN3 within a week, they have grasped the system extremely well.

“When Northcliffe took over The Forester it was a black and white 16-page broadsheet.

“We are now producing a 56-page full-colour compact publication every week. Our circulation is increasing and we are up for an award on that basis.

“During this time we have also moved premises to our new purpose-built offices in Cinderford.”

Staff at The Forester comprise Viv Hargreaves, three editorial staff and three editorial assistants, all using GN3. The advertising staff comprise four, and front office staff number three plus a merchandiser.
