£10.5m spent on new reception area

Work on a plush new entrance and reception area for the Liverpool Echo and Daily Post’s headquarters will soon be complete.

Some £10.5m has been spent on the project at New Hall Place, Old Hall Street.

The newspaper offices are getting a new retail front counter, a customer service centre and an exhibition hall.

The refurbishment is being paid for by Trinity Mirror Ltd, SunAlliance – which works from adjacent headquarters – and Fordgate, the property company which owns the lease on the building.

Echo deputy editor Tony Storey, said: “It’s a massive project and a classic case of not being able to make omelettes without cracking eggs.

“The entire design resembles a giant Meccano model!”

Managing director of Liverpool Daily Post and Echo, Stephen Parker, said: “Through our parent company, Trinity Mirror, we have committed a significant sum to this project because we believe it will play an important role in helping to strengthen the commercial core of the city centre.”

The work is expected to be completed in the New Year.
