When a man called Bath wed a woman named Chronicle…

The Bath Chronicle has met a man called Bath who married a woman called Chronicle – strange but true!

David and Helen Bath, who live in Peterborough, visited the city to investigate their family tree.

And they couldn’t resist introducing themselves to their namesake, The Bath Chronicle.

Mrs Bath, whose maiden name was Chronicle, was sure their unusual name combination was a one-off.

She said: “My family are the only Chronicles in the country. Only my brother and his children, who are all boys, carry the name so we are unique.”

The couple have been married 35 years, but only recently discovered they shared their names with a newspaper.

“My brother was visiting Bath and he came back with a badge for us with The Bath Chronicle on it.”

Mr Bath said: “We came to Bath to visit the churches and look at the properties. We’re just interested in finding out more.”

There is also a family story that connects his family with the Marquess of Bath.

“The story goes that my great great grandmother was the daughter of the daughter of the Marquess of Bath who ran away and married the gardener and was disinherited. Their daughter married my great great grandfather Francis Bath,” he said.
