They eventually scored … following a goalmouth scrabble

As promised, here are some more wonderful extracts from supplied copy sent in by correspondents for the Chichester Observer series and the Petersfield Post.

Sports editor Ben Steppel and his colleague Nick Collins noticed a few odd spellings or grammatical mistakes when they were subbing the work – and sent them in to HTFP.

    With a bare side of seven players, Northchapel played out of their skins on Saturday.

    Liss U-11 worked their way back into the game and eventually scored following a goalmouth scrabble.

    Michelle Ifould and Sarah Company provided solid fielding, Sian Southerton putting in a high octave performance.

    Wells’ bird took 6hrs 59min to cover a distance of 231 miles, with Pam and Bert Hutchence in second position.

    Dodd and Farrell followed in quick succession for ducks and then Gilliatt was caught Short off the bowling…

    He had reached 43 when he was caught in the slip cauldron.

    Ten minutes in Ludwig scored with an opportunists goal when the ball ricurshaded off one of their players and bobbled over the line.

    The home side had the final say in the match when Isaac snooped on a poor pass and galloped home from 30 metres.

    Coleman was out in bizarre circumstances. He drove the ball into his own ankle bone, which then ricocheted into the keeper’s gloves for a stumping, while Coleman was laid in agony outside his crease.

    …which was followed by the ball for Luke Nightingale for the first of his two guilt edge chances.

    It was at this stage the spectators picked up a most bazaar occurrence – the bowler from the Pylewell umpire’s end was bowling consistent no balls which were not being called.

    Despite a great save from Plumb in the Petersfield goal the ball some how was bungled over the line.

    And here’s a non-sporting one…
    But church member Harold Stephenson, of Westergate, said the Brethren’s local congregation was 94 and dated back to 1878.
