Instant notoriety from a standing start!

If you’re fed up with looking at the parish pump news in your own local paper, why not try this new addition to the world wide web, The Framley Examiner?

It is a loving recreation of certain aspects of the papers that we’ve all worked on at some time in our careers, complete with spoof stories, memorable small ads, bizarre picture stories and a weddings page to die for!

The site has been running since the beginning of October and can be found at www.framleyexaminer.com.

The team behind it aren’t paid for producing the site and are not professional comedy writers – or journalists.

The editors, known only as Joel, Jason, Alex and Rob, told Holdthefrontpage: “We’ve all had various levels of experience in local/national papers, but none of us have ever done it for a living.

“We’ve done shifts in ad departments, design depts, written articles and so on, but not full time, and we certainly don’t earn a living from it right now.

“We all have day jobs, but unrelated to the Examiner or newsprint journalism. We have, on the other hand, read an awful lot of local rags in our time.”

The response to the site has been fantastic so far – an impressive achievement considering the marketing efforts consisted of sending three dozen e-mails to friends on the day The Examiner went online.

The editors said: “We’re getting several thousand individual users a day now, and it’s growing all the time.

“People have been extremely favourable, and the general reaction has been along the “something terrible and physical just happened” line – such as ‘coffee came out of my nose, just wet myself, mascara is running down my face’ etc – which is fantastic.

“The joy of the internet – instant notoriety from a standing start!”
