Student Media Awards shortlist is announced

The Guardian has announced its shortlist for the 2001 Student Media Awards.

People who have gained valuable experience in the world of journalism while studying at college have the chance to secure work experience at the Guardian and other prizes – as well as the prestige of the win itself.

There are 13 categories to this year’s awards, including several new sections.

Judges have promised that a lack of funds or resources won’t affect their views.

The panel includes Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger, Jon Snow of Channel 4 News, BBC political editor Andrew Marr and Alastair Campbell, press secretary to the prime minister.

Other judges in the 40-strong panel include magazine writers and editors, TV and radio personalities, picture editors and designers.
