Regional awards offer £5,000 in prizes

The North West Newspaper Awards are offering a total £5,000 prize money for successful journalists.

There is still time to enter, with the closing date for hopefuls being Saturday May 14.

The awards are sponsored by British Nuclear Group and organised through the North West region of the Society of Editors.

They are given in recognition of the best journalists and newspapers throughout Cheshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cumbria in the following categories:

  • News Reporter of the Year;
  • Feature Writer of the Year;
  • Sports Reporter of the Year;
  • Photographer of the Year;
  • Young Journalist of the Year;
  • Daily Newspaper of the Year;
  • Weekly Newspaper of the Year.

    Prizes on offer include £700 for the winners in each individual category, £150 for each of the runners-up, and trophies for the daily and weekly newspapers of the year.

    Entries will be judged on Wednesday May 18 and the shortlist will be revealed the following day.

    Those shortlisted will be invited to a special presentation lunch at the JJB Stadium in Wigan on Friday July 1, where the winners will be announced.
