Prize-winners party the night away

Staff from Archant-owned newspapers from across England and Scotland have celebrated the achievements of the past year.

The group held its annual awards night at the Alexandra Palace in London, where 1,250 guests saw a host of prizes handed out to recognise the best in editorial, advertising and promotions.

Among the top awards was Journalist of the Year, which went to Mark Bulstrode from the Evening Star in Ipswich, and Photographer of the Year, which went to colleague James Fletcher.

The Paid For Newspaper of the Year award was won by the Romford Recorder, while The Comet was named best free newspaper.

  • Romford Recorder staff with editor Mark Sweetingham
  • The Comet team with editor Darren Isted
  • The Editorial Campaign of the Year title went to the Hackney Gazette for its Save Our School initiative.

The 17 main category winners were all presented with their trophies by radio presenter Simon Mayo, who was helped by Archant Awards chairman and Archant Suffolk MD Peter Swallow, Archant group finance director Adrian Jeakings and Archant Regional MD Nigel Websper.
