Press heavyweights at awards ceremony

Senior figures from the regional press were due to join Prince Charles at the first annual Prince’s Trust Local Reporting Award ceremony today.

Newspaper Society president Alec Davidson, of Northcliffe Newspapers, was at St James’ Palace with Philip Graf from Trinity Mirror, Sir Ray Tindle of Tindle Newspapers, Edwin Boorman of Kent Messenger Group, Jim Brown of Newsquest Media Group, Tim Bowdler of Johnston Press, Peter Strong of Eastern Counties Newspapers Group, and John Robertson of the Newbury Weekly News.

The Prince first announced the idea of the Local Reporting Award in his article for Local Newspaper Week 1999 and it will be presented to regional or local newspapers to recognise reporting of inspiring community stories involving young people.

The awards scheme was developed by The Prince’s Trust and the Newspaper Society and run in regional and local press last year.
