"Phenomenal" response to media awards

More than 200 entries have been received for this year’s West Midlands Media Awards.

Birmingham Press Club, which organises the event, say they have had a phenomenal response to the competition, building on the success of their first event which was held last year.

Judging is set to take place in early March when a panel of experts, headed by former Birmingham Evening Mail editor Ian Dowell, will decide who has made the shortlist.

The winners will then be announced during a prestigious ceremony at The ICC in Birmingham on April 22, where outspoken former Tory MP David Mellor will be guest of honour.

Press Club chairman Andrew Sparrow said: “There has been an absolutely phenomenal response to the awards this year, which underlines the impact our first event had on the local media in the Midlands.

“This year’s event will be bigger and better, not least because we are moving to a larger capacity venue, the ICC.”

  • Anyone wishing to sponsor part of the event should ring Kay Cadman on 0121 632 5005.
