The West Briton has been nominated for an Arts & Business South West Award with its partner, Hall for Cornwall.
Together they have developed an effective and sustainable partnership over the past six years through the West Briton’s sponsorship of the annual pantomime – and the development of an innovative community outreach project.
The awards are designed to encourage, acknowledge and celebrate excellence in the field of business/arts partnerships and sponsorship in the region.
The two companies decided to broaden their relationship to work with young people through education workshops that combined activities relating to the pantomime with practical work on how to write and produce a newspaper.
The success of the partnership has led to further collaboration to reach new and younger audiences by making theatre and creative writing more accessible.
West Briton assistant marketing manager Lisa Nicholls said: “Being shortlisted for this award is fantastic for both partners, it helps raise Cornwall’s profile as we are up against some very high profile South West businesses.
“As the local newspaper for the area, partnerships such as these help us to support local businesses and through the workshops we can work with younger people in our community and support local schools.”
The competition was fierce as the judges narrowed the numbers down to three partnerships in each of the five categories.
The West Briton and HfC is up against Business West & Bristol Cultural Development Partnership and HP Labs & Watershed at the regional awards ceremony at City Inn, Bristol, next month.
