The former joint owner of Liverpool’s Mercury Press Agency will address more than 200 journalists and special guests at the Holiday Inn, Lime Street, on Friday, June 10.

He will present £100 cheques to the winners of individual categories – ranging from Student of the Year, Newcomer, Designer, Sports, News, Features, Business, Broadcaster, Photojournalist and Scoop of the Year, and £500 to the overall Journalist of the Year.

The event, sponsored by Littlewoods, has proved a resounding success after taking place for the first time last year.

Ken Bennett, founder-secretary of the Network said: “We could have easily sold another ten tables for the event. The competition has been fierce in almost every caetgory.

“The judges said the quality of entries was astounding and proved that top line journalism is alive, well and thriving on Merseyside.”

Roger Philips of BBC Radio Merseyside and Phil Easton from Magic 1548 will act as joint comperes on the night.
