Lifetime award for former newspaper proprietor

A special award has been given to the former chairman of the Bolton Evening News for a lifetime of dedication to the town.

Marcus Tillotson was recognised at the inaugural ceremony of the local Man of the Year Awards when he was presented with a piece of engraved crystal.

He was picked for the accolade of a special award by former Mayor Coun Alan Wilkinson.

Mr Tillotson was chairman of the company which owned the Bolton Evening News from 1965 to 1971. His grandfather founded the newspaper in 1867.

His prominent roles in the town over the years have included chairman of trustees of Bolton School, chairman of the board of management at Bolton YMCA and a town magistrate from 1957 to 1985.
