Fancy being an award winner?

Organisers of the West Midlands Media Awards have made a last call for entries as the deadline approaches.

Birmingham Press Club will be holding its first media awards night at the city’s Burlington Hotel on Thursday, March 20, to recognise and reward the achievements of local journalists and broadcasters during the past 12 months.

The competition has 13 categories covering all forms of media, from newspapers to broadcasting and the Internet, and is open to all those working in the ‘wider’ West Midlands area.

Organisers want to include Derby and Nottingham in the north, Leicester in the east, Telford to the west and Worcester to the south.

A top prize of £1,000 will be handed out on the night to the winner of the Scoop of the Year category for the story which had the biggest impact on the West Midlands last year.

Other categories include Daily News Reporter of the Year; Weekly News Reporter of the Year; News Photographer of the Year; Sports Photographer of the Year; Sports Journalist of the Year; Business Journalist of the Year; Newcomer of the Year; Best Use of Technology; Best Advocate for the Region and Headline of the Year, the winners of which will all receive £250.

And engraved trophies will be handed to the winners of the Newspaper of the Year and Irritant of the Year – a special category to find the region’s most irritating individual in the public eye during the past year.

To check if you are eligible to enter the awards, contact Big Box Events on 0121 632 5005.
