New journalism awards launched for East of England

Power company EDF Energy is teaming up with HoldtheFrontPage to host a new series of media awards for the East of England.

The move follows the success of the South West Media Awards in the summer, which attracted more than 200 entries.

Journalists from all newspapers, radio and television stations are being invited to enter the EDF Energy East of England Media Awards, which will be presented at a ceremony at the Stansted Radisson in January.

The awards are free to enter, with more details on HoldtheFrontPage next week.

All award-winners will receive a certificate, and individual journalists who top their category will also receive a £100 prize.

All of the shortlisted candidates will be invited to a presentation ceremony where lunch will be provided courtesy of EDF Energy, one of the largest energy companies in the UK.

The event will also raise money for npf: The Journalists’ Charity, which helps journalists and their dependents in times of personal difficulty.

EDF Energy distributes power to a quarter of the UK’s population in a key part of the country via its networks in the East of England, London and the South East.

The company also supplies gas and electricity to five million customers through its retail brands of EDF Energy, London Energy, Seeboard Energy and SWEB Energy.

EDF Energy is a key player in national infrastructure projects, including the management of private electricity networks serving four London airports and the electrical upgrading of the London Underground. EDF Energy also generates about 5GW of energy from coal and gas power stations, as well as combined heat and power stations and wind farms.

The awards include categories for print journalists of the year for daily and weekly publications, radio journalist of the year, TV journalist of the year, front page of the year, newspaper of the year, feature writer, sports journalist of the year, photographer of the year and many others.

Work submitted must be from this calendar year – so dig out your cuttings and tapes, as we will be publishing an entry form on HoldtheFrontPage very soon.
