EDF Energy London and the South of England Media Awards open for entry

A new journalism awards contest for London and the South of England is open for entries.

Invitations have gone out to journalists across the region to attract the very best work from regional newspapers, radio and television.

The awards are being sponsored by EDF Energy, in association with holdthefrontpage.co.uk.

They follow on from successful regional journalism awards events in the South West and the East of England.

They are free to enter, and cash prizes are up for grabs, with £100 on offer for individual winners, as well as trophies, certificates and the thrill of being hailed as “the best”.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Monday, October 23, with a meal and drinks courtesy of the sponsors for all nominees and their guests.

Claire Byrd, regional media manager for EDF Energy, said: “We have been delighted with the response from regional news journalists in the areas where we are already running press awards.

“We’re hoping that London and the South of England will be no exception as there is a wealth of talent here among the print and broadcast industries waiting to be recognised in this way.”

With the launch of this latest competition EDF Energy is now supporting regional media awards in each of its main areas of operation.

The company distributes power to 7.8m homes and businesses across London, the South East and the East of England and supplies gas and electricity to more than 5m customers, mainly in London, the South East and the South West.

HoldtheFrontPage publisher Patrick Astill said: “EDF Energy has strong ties to this area and we are pleased to be strengthening those through the first EDF Energy London and the South of England Media Awards.

“We know the talent is out there, with the high standard of work from radio and television stations, daily, weekly and free newspapers all too clear to see.

“This is their chance to shine and as well as winning a trophy for their company, pick up a cash prize at the same time!

“But you’ve got to be in it to win it, and entry is free, so download the entry form and send in your work.”

The application form can be downloaded and printed out from here. It also contains some guidelines to help you enter.

All we ask is that each entry is accompanied by a separate entry form.

The panel of judges will be announced soon, so check back regularly to see which industry experts will be going over your work.

Entries must be received by 5pm on Friday September 8.

They should be sent to Patrick Astill,
