Last year’s event attracted more than 150 entries from 50 or so publications and broadcasters.

Holdthefrontpage publisher Patrick Astill said: “After last year’s success, we’re hoping journalists will once again be able to send in their work to show off the wealth of talent in this region.

“The articles and clips last year showed how our local news outlets can match the very best in terms of subject matter, writing, depth and grabbing the attention of readers, viewers and listeners.

“We’re looking forward to seeing what made the news during the past 12 months.”

The awards event itself will be in October where lunch will be provided courtesy of EDF Energy, one of the largest energy companies in the UK.

A top sporting personality is being lined up to present the awards.

Last year the Daily Echo in Bournemouth was named Daily Newspaper of the Year, also scooping Columnist of the Year, with a win for Faith Eckersall, and Environmental Journalist of the Year, with Natalie Bruckner named the winner.
