Cornishman nominated for Media Award

The Cornishman newspaper has been praised for its coverage of local drug issues by being nominated for a media award.

The DrugScope Annual Media Award is awarded to a newspaper that has responsibly dealt with community drug problems.

Barbara Smith, PR Adviser of the Local Drug Communication Project, nominated the paper following its coverage of the project’s £60,000 initiative aimed at raising drug awareness in Penwith.

Mrs Smith wrote: “The coverage we got from our local newspaper The Cornishman was excellent and we should like to nominate the paper, and in particular its staff reporter Max Channon, for a local media award.

“He worked closely with us to put the various articles together to ensure we covered as many of the activities as we could.

“Although the Local Drugs Communication Project was concentrated over a short period, many of the initiatives funded have a much longer shelf life and we look forward to continuing working with The Cornishman on these ongoing stories.”
