The Grimsby Telegraph classified advertising department is celebrating after scooping an award in a Europe-wide competition.

Staff won the title of Best Small Call Centre, an honour which puts the paper at the forefront of customer care and service, at the European Call Centre of the Year Awards 2001.

The Telegraph was named as winner at a ceremony at the Hilton Metropole at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre, beating off tough competition from the Derbyshire Building Society, Johnson and Johnson Visioncare and StepStone.

As part of the judging process, the classified department was visited unannounced on a normal working day so that methods, professionalism processes and training could be investigated.

Julia Arthur, general advertising manager for Grimsby and Scunthorpe Newspapers was also shortlisted at the awards, and was a finalist in the European Call Centre Professional of the Year category.

Julia said the classified team’s award reflected a high degree of professionalism.

She said: “This is the industry standard. It is a tremendous achievement and proves that we are the best in our league.”
