Best student journalists are shortlisted

After much deliberation, judges have come up with the shortlist for this year’s National Student Media Awards.

The competition, run by the National Union of Students in association with the Independent newspaper, attracted more than 400 entries.

Topping the shortlist is Oxford University which has six nominations, including Best Student Newspaper for Cherwell; and the University of Leeds and the University of Nottingham, which both have five nominations.

Winners will be announced at an awards night on Saturday, November 16, as part of a two-day conference being held by the NUS at the Britannia International hotel in Canary Wharf.

The conference offers advice on how to edit, write for and design student publications and is a must for all student journalists with workshops from esteemed media professionals.

Last year the workshops were led by leading lights from all aspects of the media, including Mark Frith, editor of Heat magazine; Radio Four presenter Andrew Collins and Donald Macintyre, chief political commentator for the Independent.
