The Yorkshire Bank Northern Business Journalist of the Year Awards begin in earnest this week with the despatch of entry forms to potential competitors.

There are three new categories this year, including two for publications, to go with the rest which reward individual journalists.

The full range of categories now reads:
* Newspaper of the Year
* Magazine of the Year
* Daily Newspaper Journalist of the Year
* Weekly Newspaper Journalist of the Year
* Magazine Journalist of the Year
* Broadcast Journalist of the Year

The cash to be awarded to the winner of each category will rise this year from £400 to £800.

The awards are open to all journalists and publications covering business, which are based between the Trent and Scottish border.

Reporters and titles from the national, regional and local media are all eligible to enter and entries can be made in more than one category.

Submissions must have been published or broadcast between the beginning of June 2000 and the same stage of this year.

Entries must be received by Friday 28 September and the winners will be announced at a presentation dinner, at the Royal Station Hotel, Newcastle, on Thursday November 15.
