Amnesty nomination for regional press man

Regional press journalist James Walsh is up against competition from national newspapers and the broadcasting industry in a bid to be recognised for his work covering the asylum issue.

The Clydebank Post writer penned a series of articles on the holocaust, and Pakistani and Algerian asylum seekers, which have been entered in Amnesty International’s 13th annual UK Media Awards.

He’s up against Newsnight, The Guardian, and Radio 4’s PM programme, among others, for the Gaby Rado Memorial Award for a journalist at the start of their career.

The winners in this and other categories will be announced at an evening awards ceremony at BAFTA, London, on Thursday 13 May 2004, to be hosted by writer, columnist and broadcaster Joan Bakewell.

The Amnesty International UK Media Awards, sponsored by Pci: Live, recognise excellence in human rights reporting and acknowledge the significant contribution made to the UK public’s awareness and understanding of human rights issues.
