NCTJ Accredited Fast-Track Course
Up To Speed’s unique 22-week fast track course is the first of its kind in the UK. It trains you to be a Multi-Media Journalist and so gives you the skills to survive and thrive in print, broadcast and online media.
With this qualification you can chase your dreams of a job in any area of journalism whether it be newspapers, magazines, broadcasting or online.
The emphasis is on practical reporting and one day a week is devoted to finding and producing stories for our multi-media news website, www.poolepeople.co.uk.
You will also be asked to file shorter stories on other days of the week and to maintain a blog while you are with us.
Your stories will combine elements of text, still pictures, video and audio where appropriate.
You will take NCTJ exams in News Writing, Shorthand, Media Law and Public Affairs. The best of the work you produce for Poole People will go into a multi-media Portfolio. We encourage all of our students to carry out two weeks of work placement, either in vacations at Christmas or Easter, or on Fridays, which we keep free of classes.
News production days are run by Tom Hill, Up To Speed’s founder and a former producer for ITN, the BBC, Sky News and GMTV. The former Deputy Editor of ft.com, Liisa Rohumaa gives master classes in Online Journalism and ensures that you are up to speed with all the latest developments.
Our full-time courses are based in Poole near Bournemouth in Dorset and start in September and February.
The total price for the Fast-Track Journalism courses starting in 2008/2009 is £2,400 incl VAT. NCTJ exam fees are paid for separately and cost £37 each.
