De Montfort University offer a range of Journalism courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Journalism at DMU is taught by a highly experienced and highly qualified group of award winning journalists. All practical journalism tutors are former newspaper editors who have worked in staff and freelance roles for some of the UK’s biggest media companies. All keep their skills fresh by continuing to work in UK journalism, maintaining their vital industry contacts and ensuring our courses are at the cutting edge of UK journalism education and training.
Our undergraduate routes include BA (Hons) Journalism (NCTJ accredited) which has a strong vocational element and an emphasis on practical skills and ‘real world’ journalism practice as well as engaging with the academic debates and issues surrounding the world of contemporary journalism.
The joint honours BA (Hons) Journalism allows students to study Journalism alongside another subject such as Arts Management, Creative Writing, English, Film Studies, History, International Relations, Media Studies and Politics. These subjects have been carefully selected to work well with Journalism as a combination.
At postgraduate level, our long established NCTJ accredited Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism has been running for over 10 years and boasts an almost 100% employability record. From 2008, students can also opt for the MA ‘top-up’ to embed their knowledge and skills in a theoretical context.
