Journalism students will get the chance to air their views about industry training at an annual gathering to take place next week.

In 2008, the National Council for the Training of Journalists launched a student council to represent the views of rookie reporters on its accredited courses across the UK.

After the inaugural meeting at the Manchester Evening News, and then again at Bloomberg in London last year, council members will join up at The Guardian's offices next Friday.

Among the subjects up for discussion will be students' visions and aspirations for the NCTJ's multimedia training and qualifications.

The council, which represents around 1,800 journalism students across 68-accredited courses, will have the chance to quiz a panel of senior NCTJ figures, chaired by its chief executive Joanne Butcher.

Progress with action agreed at previous meetings will be reported and a new online communication system for student reps to use on the NCTJ's website is also due to be unveiled.

Bob Satchwell, Society of Editors executive director and NCTJ director, will chair a Q&A session with a panel of editors including Graham Dudman, managing editor of The Sun, and Swindon Advertiser editor Dave King.

The day will also include a feedback session and a tour of The Guardian's offices.
